Sports Massage can help everyone from serious athletes to those simply looking to seek relief from muscular tension or wanting to keep their muscles in tip top condition.

All sports massage treatments are tailor made for the individual and a postural assessment is offered during the first consultation to pinpoint areas of weakness or imbalance. We will also look at range of movement to see where the body is tight and movement is restricted.

The Massage will incorporate specific sports techniques to break down adhesions and any scar tissue, free up tight muscles and fascia and improve joint mobility. We will work with you to release tension and tightness in the body, re-find your body’s correct posture and restore balance to the muscular skeletal system.

A Sports Massage will also speed up the healing process, aid pain relief and increase the drainage of metabolic waste (lactic acid) from the muscles.

Quiessence Massage offers four types of Sports Massage:

• Pre-event sports massage - a short, stimulating massage 15 - 45 minutes before the event. It is directed toward the parts of the body that will be involved in the exertion.

• Post-event sports massage - given within an hour or two of the event, to normalize the body's tissues.

• Restorative sports massage - given during training to allow the athlete to train harder and with less injury.

• Rehabilitative sports massage - aimed at alleviating pain due to injury and returning the body to health.

Katherine is a fully qualified Sports Massage Therapist accredited to BTEC level 4 and is a member of the Institute of Sports and Remedial Massage (ISRM).
